A guide to the OSRS PvP Arena

If you’re looking to dominate tournaments in Old School RuneScape, we’ve prepared an OSRS PvP Arena Guide!

The PvP arena replaces the old duel arena, where all kinds of illegal dealings took place. This new arena would work much like what it replaced, but with some improved mechanics and updated rewards. Participating in this is a great alternative to farming Gold OSRS and find out if your PvP build is viable (in some way).

A guide to the OSRS PvP Arena

How to access the PvP arena

There is a new button in the Grouping menu saying “PvP Arena”. Clicking on it will take you to another window where you can press “Search” to start searching for a group. There are three options:

  • Join an official 1v1 tournament
  • Join an official 1v1 duel
  • Search for a group by name

The arena itself is an instanced area, so you don’t have to wait for your duel to begin. You will be instantly teleported to the PvP battle of your choice and then back. It will only slightly interrupt your other activities.

All duel participants will have their stats set to one of the following versions. These builds will rotate weekly, so make sure you have the correct items selected in your PvP inventory.

Offensive Strength Defense Damage Points From a distance Magic Pray
Max/Avg 75 99 70 99 99 99 77
Zerking 60 99 45 99 99 99 55
Pure 60 99 1 99 99 99 77

As for the inventory, an “Equipment” tab will appear when you join a PvP duel. You will select the items you will bring and use in the arena. There is a choice of 400 things you can use for battle. Make sure you can use the items you bring, as you will only be able to use what you have the stats for.

Types of battle

The official and unofficial versions work the same way, so this will be a general explanation.

Tournaments put an even number of players into 1v1 battles. The winners will then start their own 1v1 fights and so on. The contest ends when there is a winner. For example, with 8 participants, there will be 4 1 against 1 in the first round. Then there will be two battles and the winners will fight for 1st place.

A duel is just that. You will fight one-on-one with another player. You will get rewards if you win, but you risk losing your ranking if you lose.

The difference between official and unofficial duels is that you don’t get rewards in unofficial battles. However, if there is a sponsor for an unofficial tournament, they may give their own prizes. The point is that the unofficial ones won’t affect your ranking in the PvP system, nor will they award you reward points.

Awards and Leaderboards

Winning official duels will give you ranking and reward points. Ranking points are the basis of your ranking in the PvP system. The more you have, the higher your rank. They are also used in matchmaking. You will be matched with players with similar ranking points. Reward points can be redeemed for items. These items range from PvP-oriented gear to ornament kits and imprint scrolls. PvP oriented equipment will be broken initially and will need to be repaired before use. They can only be used in PvP areas such as the Wilderness and PvP worlds.

Dropping them during a PvP death will cause them to shatter and the gold to be given to your killer in their place. Additionally, they are not tradable to prevent illegitimate players from obtaining them. There are lots of new items and some updated old ones to collect! You won’t find these OSRS items for sale Anywhere else.

In tournaments, your points depend on the place you have reached. The goal and the one that gives the highest rewards is 1st place. Placing anywhere else will give diminished prices. Duels are easier, with winning streaks increasing the points you get. However, the reverse is also true. A losing streak will increasingly deduct your ranking points. You might also fall in rank as a result.

Take your place in the leaderboard

That’s all you need to know to enjoy PvP Arena in OSRS. You’ll need to make sure the items you bring into the arena are ones you can use and match the current rotation build. Keep your winning streaks or try to get first place for the best rewards. It will also allow you to climb the leaderboards as quickly as a monkey climbs a tree. While it doesn’t reward you with OSRS Gold, it is rewarding in its own way.

Old School RuneScape is available and free on Windows PC (via Steam and the official site), Android and iOS.
