Steps to Get Certified to Sell Florida Real Estate

The process to earn your Florida real estate license may vary from person to person. However, obtaining certification generally takes between 2 and 5 months. To be eligible, you must be at least 18 years old, reside in the United States, and have a high school diploma (or equivalent).

Meeting these basic requirements will allow you to officially begin your certification process. Here are the steps to follow:

  • Take the pre-license course:
Your real estate certification process begins with a 63-hour pre-license course with a final exam. The pre-licensing course requirement is waived for those licensed to practice law in Florida.

Prices for the pre-license course can vary between $ 100 and $ 500. Candidates who register for this course have 6 months to complete it.

To pass the exam, the candidate must have a score of at least 70%. Students who score lower must wait at least 30 days before they can retake the test.
  • Apply for the Florida real estate exam:
Applicants should send their application to the Florida Division of Real Estate (DRE) to secure their reservation for the exam.

As part of the application process, applicants must submit their license application fees and electronic fingerprints to the Department of Business and Professional Regulations (DBPR). The DBPR will then perform a background check on the applicant.
  • Take and pass the exam!
Your real estate exam will be supervised by Pearson VUE. They will offer exams in multiple formats and locations for a surprisingly low cost of $ 36.75 per exam. Candidates will receive an email with the subject line “Authorization to test” giving you the green light to take the test.

Applicants must achieve at least 75% on the exam to finally earn their Florida real estate certification. Once the test is successful, you can simply download and print your license through your DBPR account.

Congratulations, you have officially become a Certified Florida Real Estate Agent!

The next steps….

To be able to work as a chartered real estate agent, you must be affiliated with a chartered broker. They will take care of the activation process, after which you can start your exciting career as a licensed agent in Florida.
