Old School RuneScape adds Guardians of the Rift minigame this week

After offering a new rune-crafting mini-game at the end of January, the Old School RuneScape announced that Guardians of the Rift will be added this week on March 23.

The minigame (which also has a new trailer) was originally mooted in December 2020 as a possible new training method, but things evolved and eventually accelerated as the team set the lore and the description of the mini-game which is always emphasizing Runecraft training, but also with increasing challenge. This mode, Guardians of the Rift, centers the Great Guardian trying to close the rift, with Rift Guardians you can keep charged, spawn more of, and basically work to protect the Great Guardian.

Throughout the mode, expect other dangers like Abyssal creatures that spawn and attack the Grand Guardian. This is a Skilling mini-game, so you’ll need to craft the correct runes and keep all your help full of energy to succeed. The Great Warden must be kept energized in order to continue working to close the rift. There are a few different phases in the challenge, with more difficult monsters eventually appearing.

The community wanted the mode, so it was approved and went through playtesting. Through playtesting, the @JagexHusky post that this has brought about a recent change. Over the past few weeks testing “resulted in a very recent change so that you don’t have to use your own pure essence to play Guardians of the Rift. I know people who like this mechanic and we do too in theory , but really it just made the gameplay clunky and not really fun”. This decision was finalized ahead of release this week and there will be more information once the minigame releases on Wednesday. following the last update.
