Reasons why Old School RuneScape is better than RuneScape 3
Sometimes the games are so good that they not only last for years, but decades. Runescape is one of them, and it’s crazy to think that only two brothers originally developed the game. Although the game has hit the 20-year mark, the Runescape game is still seeing high traffic all the time. So, is a game that has been on the market for over 20 years still worth playing?
Runescape: An MMO Split in Two
Runescape is a Massively Multiplayer Online Game (MMO) RPG with a release date of January 2001. However, the 2001 version is much more different from how we see the game today.
November 20, 2012 is a date no OG fan can forget as that day introduced the “Evolution of Combat” update, which would change the game forever. Evolution of Combat has completely reworked Runescape’s combat system, which has had mixed reactions from the player base.
The game after the update is now widely known as Runic Landscape 3. There was popular demand and petitions to bring back the Runescape 2007. Jagex chose to bring the game back but separated the game from Runescape 3. The game was decided to be called Old-fashioned runic landscape.
The game brought more traction with the release of Mobile Runescape October 30, 2018.
The evolution of combat
How did one of the biggest MMOs in the world split into two games? It all comes down to one update: the evolution of combat. To understand why, we have to go back to Runescape’s 2007 golden year.
Runescape was very well known at the time, with over 120 quests to do and 23 skills to max out. One of the most popular factors in the game was the combat system. The game was running on the basis of ticks. For example, if a sword is attacked every 3 seconds, it works on the basis of 5 ticks.
Each tick had its own formula for power. The combat system was basically perfect for PvP. Runescape had a simple combat system, and it worked for them.
The Dark Age of Runescape
The update removed wilderness and free trade, and players couldn’t get PK (Player Kill) the same way as before. This meant that players could no longer fight for the items they owned. This update has shown the gradual decline in the player base.
Jagex was trying to cope with a disaster over the period 2007-2012. The players were trying to pull themselves together, trying to get used to the new updates, and they started ranting so much in the rant section that Jagex deleted the rant section. Jagex was in a tough spot when it first used microtransactions. Jagex was losing players fast, and they had to change their formula, and they had to do it quickly.
The rise of Runescape
It appeared that Runescape was on its last leg at this point. But, some of the main streamers became heroes and rallied the troops. Creator after creator has been influenced to bring Server 2007 back.
Jagex then proceeded to set up the first of one hundred official polls on whether or not to bring back the old servers. In the month after the poll came back up, the poll received up to a million nods, and with that, Runescape 2007 was back.
Power leveling refers to when a player tries to level up quickly in a certain niche without worrying about losing or gaining other resources. In his heart, OSRS power level in Runescape means training in particular skills.
For example, melee is enhanced by killing armored zombies, bandits, etc., and construction is enhanced by building and destroying oak doors, pantries, etc.
Most players don’t have the time or energy to level up.
Therefore, some players resort to reducing the time of the grinding process by purchasing in-game OSRS Gold or in-game level points using real money. One of those websites for cheap and reliable gambling is ORDER.
Which of the Runescape should you play?
Old school Runescape is in this weird place right now because it doesn’t receive any recent updates. All Old School Runescape players were exhausted by this point. So people would turn their heads and see what was going on in Runescape 3.
Runescape 3 was getting frequent updates, better graphics, and more skills to max out.
There is a huge difference between Runescape 3 and the old school Runescape. Runescape 3 gameplay follows the same style as some of the other MMOs.
Runescape 3 has more quests than the old school. Old School Runescape has a grind system which may not work for most people, while Runescape 3 has a quick leveling system. Runescape 3 is designed for the end game and without a doubt has better endgame combat than the old school.
To conclude, for people who are planning to start Runescape, Runescape 3 will certainly appeal to you. As the name suggests, Old School Runescape is for OG gamers who played Runescape a lot in 2007. So what are you waiting for? Play Runescape for free on Steam.
