Stark State will host a student symposium

JACKSON TWP. — The Stark State College Honors Program will present its annual student symposium on Saturday, featuring SSC students and area high school students as they present capstone projects, speeches, research projects, technical skills and creative work in a variety of disciplines and fields. There will be nearly 40 student presentations.

The event, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Business and Entrepreneurial Center, 6200 Frank Ave. NW, Room M100, is open to the public. The keynote speaker will be Sherry Neubert, Chief Information Officer and Vice President of Information Technology for Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. The Hoover Chamber Orchestra will provide music. Ohio Business Week July 10-16

COLUMBUS — The 2022 Ohio Business Week Summer Business Program will run July 10-16 at Ohio University in Athens. Ohio Business Week creates a hands-on, experiential environment in which business leaders, educators, and community volunteers educate, empower, and encourage a diverse population of high school students. Ohio Business Week places up to 150 high school students in a dynamic simulation where they compete as industry professionals, sharpen their communication skills and face real-world challenges with guidance from a volunteer mentor from the business environment.

The week-long residential program focuses on skills in entrepreneurship, leadership, communication, teamwork and problem solving. Students undertake hands-on projects providing them with the opportunity to operate a business and create a new product or service complete with a business plan, financials, marketing materials, website, and advertising. The week ends with a public fair and presentation judging.

A dance marathon raises funds
for Akron Children’s Hospital

NORTHERN TOWNSHIP — The annual Cavathon dance-a-thon, held March 26 at the Cecchini Center, surpassed its goal of $20,000 and raised the second-highest amount in its eight-year history — with nearly $35,000 in donations for Akron Children’s Hospital. During the event, 68 Walsh University students danced and stood for 12 hours to raise funds and awareness.

Cavathon is a year-round student-led philanthropic movement, uniting students from more than hundreds of colleges, universities, and high schools across the United States and Canada. As a fundraising program, each campus’ Miracle Network Dance Marathon organization works throughout the year to raise funds and awareness to change the health of children and change the future of their children. The Cavathon Group is a council of 15 Walsh University students who are responsible for planning the main event and who work throughout the year on fundraising and awareness efforts.

Enroll in Lake Local Kindergarten

TWP LAKE. – Lake Local Schools has partnered with FinalForms, an online forms and data management service that has replaced paper registration forms. In order to enroll your Kindergarten student, you must first contact Lake Primary School at 330-877-4298. You will then be setup with a FinalForms account. Parents/guardians will receive an email with step-by-step instructions on how to log in and create an account for their new kindergarten.

After completing FinalForms, you will bring the required documents listed below to Primary Lake. The Lake Elementary School is at 13244 Cleveland Ave. NW; phone 330-877-4298. Registration is not complete until you bring the documents to Primary Lake. Parents/guardians should bring the following forms when registering, as they are required by Ohio State and local Lake Schools, students will not be registered without them:

  • Declaration of residence, completed and notarized (Lake Form AO_20)
  • Three proofs of residency (eg driver’s license, utility bill, insurance policy/bill, mortgage bill, pay stub, voter registration, void check or savings deposit voucher). We are not permitted to use rental/lease agreements.
  • Child’s official birth certificate (from health department), child must be 5 years old by August 1st.
  • Child’s vaccination record
  • Parental photo ID/driver’s license
  • IEP/ETR (if applicable)
  • Custody documents (if applicable)
